Zach B. Nimble lives among us !

Every city has a "Benjamin Franklin" - Las Cruces has their Zach B. Nimble who is combining engineering with art.

Zach B. Nimble in his Studio/apartment

As I entered Zach B. Nimble’s apartment in Las Cruces I was literally transcended into a different world:  An endless amount of screws and electric capacitors were side by side cookies and duct tape.  Beautiful ballpoint pencil drawings were loosely caught and spread by an incoming breeze from the door.  It appeared as if the kitchen pans were stacked, ready to be altered into a possible steampunk apparatus.  Not a single square inch was available in his place, but it was rather the gathering place for ideas, trinkets and discarded stuff outside of the ordinary realm.  (Maybe not the litter box, or the cat that was greeting me)

This was definitely not the apartment of an ordinary guy!  Face it, Zach is not the ordinary guy!  For the last five years he is driven to bring steampunk art to the world around you and me.  This art form combines high tech engineering with masterful and beautiful craftsmanship . . .  with no purpose, but a road to vast, colorful imaginations.   I would call Zach a mixture of Benjamin Franklin and Andy Warhol.   Zach is a true Master of this craft.    As any artist, he is driven by passion and an inner voice to fulfill a mission given to him.  A mission to bring us art, dreams and illusions . . .

Above is his recent, elaborate design of an “airship” ala Jules Verne; a semi – traditional ship design changed to flight.  Made out of repurposed, crafted clothes hangers, lights, tubes and electronics that, when turned on, will make your mind and airship spin.

At only about 15 inches tall, this design allows you to transcend into the moment of fantasy, where you need to jump on this vehicle and take a ride … but then you suddenly realize …

A glimpse of history reenacted by discarded metal and hours of painstaking artful work.

The industrious reconstruction of an illusionary ship, that sailed the oceans of dreams has come home to the harbor of reality.  Here again we can see the semi-traditional ship design changed to allow flight.

Water Fight in the world of Pecans

Out in the western part of the American Pecan Belt, the sun burns hot, water runs scarce, and pecan trees grow for miles and miles. Growers look forward to a bright future and continue to plant in Doña Ana County, New Mexico and around the El Paso Valley, Texas.
But a cloud looms over growers in these areas. Already a scarce commodity, water—an essential resource—has become even more treasured.
